Subcutaneous fat necrosis of newborn children.

چکیده
We report a case of subcutaneous fat necrosis of a newborn child which appeared 9 days after birth and was cured without any complications. We propose the reclassification of the etiological factors accompanying this lesion by classifying them in a plurietiological syndrome with some basic or essential factors and other causative factors.

We present the CT findings in two newborns with subcutaneous fat necrosis. This is an uncommon disease that occurs in neonates who have had difficult deliveries. The CT findings varied from discrete subcutaneous nodules to a diffuse subcutaneous fullness. Although the subcutaneous disease tends to spontaneously resolve within weeks to months, an associated hypercalcemia may have a fatal outcome.

The disease affects newborns at term or post-term, with normal general health. We describe two cases of newborns affected by the disease. One of them already had lesions since birth. Also, we discuss the use of puncture for diagnostic assistance.
